This is not a gig review. It’s a story. It may contain traces of a gig review. It’s long and I make no apologies for that, because if the story deserves to be told at all (your choice) then it deserves to be told in full.

SDP 211 – Miriam Clancy interview part 2 (SDC production)
This week on podcast recording night (Thursday) I shall be catching Miriam Clancy live at Mighty Mighty in Wellington.
So as I intimated on last week’s show, I’ve slightly repackaged another Sitting Duck Collection production for the podcast. This production is based on Miriam Clancy’s debut album, Lucky One, and includes more interview material. I hope you’ll enjoy this one as well – her debut album still holds a lot of appeal for me even after her tour de force second release.

SDP 210 – Grey days
I’m back! I have six interesting tracks for you today, chosen via a rather unusual method. All top notch of course – nothing but top notch on the SDP. In the talkie stakes I’ll fill you in on a few podcast related things and relate a wonderful experience with a broken computer. Yes, you read that right.

Gentry does it
The title of this post is the same as the second ever episode of the podcast, way back in 2006. That’s how long I’ve been playing and enjoying Bob Gentry. We still touch base every now and then. Most recently as a result of his second album, Seconds. I’ve promoted it on the podcast before now and again I will say check it out! It’s a great work that builds on the sound of Bob’s debut, self-titled album.
The video included here has just been released for the Beat Into You track from Seconds.

No podcast this week
Sorry folks. I’ve run out of time and frankly don’t have the energy to put a podcast together this week. It’s been a hellish week at work and a good chunk of my Thursday evening was taken up by a drinks invitation from my boss who has popped down-country to see us. I’ll see if I can rustle up another YouTube video to post.

SDP 209 – Miriam Clancy interview (SDC production)
Ugh! I have the flu. Or at least a cold. My nose doesn’t like me.
Anyway, rather than skip a week, I’ve slightly repackaged a Sitting Duck Collection production for the podcast. The production is based on Miriam Clancy’s latest album, Magnetic, and includes interview material. I hope you’ll enjoy this – something a little bit different if you haven’t listened over on the SDC side.

SDP 208 – Takin’ it easy
I’ve selected a diverse mix of eight tracks – none of which have featured in the podcast before. I felt like a bit of a break from the long-form live recording session I usually do, so apart from a brief intro and a big back announce of all the tracks you won’t hear from me. The show was ‘assembled’ thanks to the awesome power of Übercaster.

Player upgrade
I was just alerted, today, to the fact that the WordPress plugin I use for the podcast player on this site has been updated to deal with the silly issue of browsers pre-loading the podcast and mucking up the stats. So, I’ve upgraded and now those of you on iOS devices should get a working player on the posts.

Songbird
I was barely 8 years old when Fleetwood Mac’s seminal Rumours album was released – hardly a rabid music fan. But I do remember growing up to its sounds. It was much later in life that I ‘discovered’ the album.
Fleetwood Mac was one of those bands that rated a ‘best of’ album in my CD collection as a young adult. Lots of good songs but no real connection for me. Then one day not so many years ago, when home from work with a flu, I was flipping around the channels on the TV and stumbled across a documentary on the making of the album. Within a week I owned a copy on CD and it has been listened to many times since. It’s quite amazing how much the story lends to the music – not least Songbird.
Christine McVie was recorded in a single take in Zellerbach Hall, Berkeley, California. She not only sang and played piano but also wrote the song. It is a beautiful example of the singer-songwriter craft.
